On Sunday, 5 Nov 2006 at 09:49 am, the SCDF was alerted to a case of ferric chloride fumes leakage from a tank at the Unigold International Pte Ltd located at No. 2 Little Road.

The SCDF responded with a fire engine, a red rhino and 5 supporting appliances. Upon arrival at incident site within 4 minutes of call, the SCDF personnel found the tank in question at the roof top of the 2 storey building. It was a small rectangular tank of approximately 1500 litres capacity which was emitting yellow fumes due to a leak on the lid of the tank. The chemical involved was identified to be ferric chloride, a by-product of the chemical process performed by the company.

The fume leak was contained by SCDF by covering the entire top lid of the tank using plastic sheets and adhesive tapes. The operation (Detection, mitigation, ventilation process) took about 3 hours. After successful mitigation, the case was handed over to an authorised contractor that had been called in to assist in the recovery works.

Nobody was injured in the incident.
