Yesterday SCDF celebrated Civil Defence Day with a Parade at the Basic Rescue Training Centre (BRTC). Every year, on 15 September, Civil Defence Day serves as a reminder of the importance of civil defence. This is a day for SCDF personnel to reaffirm and pledge their commitment to SCDF and the nation.
The Guest of Honour for the CD Day Parade 2009 was Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs. Besides the formal parade, this year"s event also saw the inclusion of a mass display segment. In addition, the name of SCDF"s latest in-house innovation fire fighting vehicle, the Mini Light Fire Attack Vehicle (LFAV), was also unveiled.
In a month long campaign, SCDF and the National Fire and Civil Emergency Preparedness Council (NFEC) jointly organized a contest to invite members of the public to give a name to this latest innovative fire-fighting vehicle. More than 1000 entries were received for the contest.
Ms Chiong Si Hui, Joyce was the selected winner of the Mini LFAV naming contest, with her entry "fireFLY". She won the 1st prize of $1000 cash voucher sponsored by NFEC.
