The observance of the Festival of the Hungry Ghosts commences from 25 July till 23 Aug 2006. During this period, religious activities such as the burning of incense papers and joss sticks are expected to increase. The SCDF would like to advise the public in exercising greater caution when conducting such religious rites at public areas.
Here are some simple tips to help minimize fire occurrences during this period of festivities:
a. After the prayer session, always check the area for smoldering incense or embers and ensure that it is completely extinguished before leaving;b. When making the religious offerings in public areas, always use the incense burners or metal containers provided by the Town Council. The burners or containers should be placed on sturdy ground and at a distance from other residential premises; andc. Ensure that the incense paper is properly placed in the container and that the container is properly closed after burning.
Remember that fire safety is our collective responsibility. Together, we can help to reduce fire occurrences!
