On 18 June 2006 at about 5.55am, the SCDF was alerted to a fire incident at Blk 273, Bukit Batok East Ave 4. One fire engine, one Red Rhino, two Fire Bikes and four support appliances were immediately despatched to the incident location.
SCDF personnel arrived at scene in six minutes and found smoke bellowing from a bakery shop (#01-75). The premises were locked and SCDF personnel gained access into the unit using forcible entry tools. Donning breathing apparatus sets, SCDF personnel penetrated the unit with a 38mm water jet and the fire was swiftly extinguished in less than ten minutes. The fire was mainly confined to the front display and shelving. However, the rest of the unit was also blackened by the smoke from the fire.
SCDF assisted in the evacuation of seven residents in the course of this incident. There were no reported injuries as a result of this fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
