On 24 Jan 2006 at 2.32 am, SCDF was alerted to a fire at Blk 495D Tampines Street 43. 1 fire engine, 2 red rhinos, 3 ambulances and 1 support vehicle were deployed to the incident. SCDF arrived at the location within 7 minutes.
Upon arrival, the SCDF personnel found the premises locked and gained access into the unit using forcible entry tools such as the power saw. One bedroom was engulfed in flames and the apartment was smoke-logged. Donning breathing apparatus sets, SCDF personnel immediately penetrated the thick smoke to conduct a simultaneous search of the unit as well as extinguish the fire with one 38mm jet.
SCDF personnel rescued 2 adults and 3 children who were found unconscious in the flat. They were conveyed to Changi General Hospital and KK Hospital respectively. The fire was extinguished within 5 minutes. In addition, residents from the 8th storey to the 12th storey of the HDB block were evacuated by the police as a precautionary measure.
The cause of fire is under investigation.
