SCDF was alerted to a case of fire at Blk 619 Hougang Ave 8 at 9.23am. SCDF resources which included 2 Fire engines, 1 Red Rhino, 1 Ambulance were immediately dispatched to the incident site.
Upon the arrival of SCDF resources, black smoke was seen issuing from the unit. SCDF personnel with breathing apparatus equipment immediately conducted forcible entry into the unit. Fire fighting operations and search and rescue operations were carried out concurrently.
One team consisting four SCDF officers with one water jet was deployed to conduct fire fighting in the living room, while another team of four SCDF officers carried out search and rescue operations in the unit. As one of doors to the bedroom was locked, forcible entry was also conducted on the bedroom door.
The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes. The damage caused by the fire was confined to the living room.
A total of 3 casualties were rescued from the unit. They were conveyed to Singapore General Hospital (see details below).
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
