The National Fire and Civil Emergency Preparedness Council (NFEC) organised the annual NFEC Fire Safety and Civil Emergency Preparedness Seminar 2009 on 3 August 2009 at the Concorde Hotel. The Guest-of-Honour for the event was SCDF Commissioner Peter Lim.
During the seminar, Commissioner Peter Lim also launched the ICE (In Case of Emergency) Outreach Programme. This will be a month long campaign jointly organised by the SCDF and NFEC, where ICE Promotion Booths will visit the heartlands and also shopping malls in the city centre to encourage mobile phone users to store their emergency contacts with the prefix ICE (eg. ICE-Husband). By having a uniform approach to storing emergency contacts inside a mobile phone, emergency responders can rapidly identify and contact the victim"s next-of-kin in the event of an emergency. City Gas is the main sponsor for the collaboration project which is also supported by StarHub and Singtel.
ROVING ICE BOOTHSIn September 2009, roving "ICE" Promotion booths will be stationed at strategic locations in Singapore to facilitate the mass distribution of the ICE collaterals at shopping malls and during Emergency Preparedness (EP) Day events held at heartlands to promote and encourage the public to learn more about ICE. Members of public who have programmed ICE contacts into their handphones will also be eligible to participate in a lucky draw contest.
ICE STICKERSLeveraging on the high mobile phones penetration rate in Singapore, ICE Stickers and brochures will be given out at these roving ICE Booths road shows to complement the ICE Outreach Programme efforts. These mobile phone users will be encouraged to paste these ICE Stickers to the back of their mobile phones. These ICE Stickers will serve as indicators to the emergency responders such as paramedics and medical practitioners that the victim has a stored emergency contact with the prefix ICE for them to call in the event of an emergency.
