United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Ms Valerie Amos visited the Civil Defence Academy (CDA) earlier today. Ms Amos was received by Commissioner SCDF, Commissioner Eric Yap. The visit provided Ms Amos an insight into SCDF"s Concept of Operations and its training facilities at the academy.
During her visit, Ms Amos was shown the academy's state-of-the-art computer-controlled simulators used for fire-fighting, rescue,Hazardous Materials mitigation and pre-hospital care management. In addition, Ms Amos was also shown the academy's latest training system, the Advanced Command Training System which uses a 3D immersive environment for command and control training for senior commanders.
Ms Amos" visit to CDA concluded with a reception where she signed the Guestbook thanking SCDF for the "excellent cooperation and support received for humanitarian efforts globally." Ms Amos also mentioned that she was "deeply impressed by the commitment of your [SCDF] staff and the quality of the training."
This is Ms Amos" second visit to the SCDF, with the first being in 2012 when she visited SCDF"s Headquarters.
